Re: Baking Question

For our first Christmas in Crete, many years ago, I wanted to make mincemeat - which of course, if you do it properly, and aren’t vegetarian, involves suet. I looked up the word for suet, (μπολιά as Kookla says) wrote it down and showed it to the butcher, with words for “kidney” and “fat” for good m...

Re: Medical Grade face masks

Those masks seem expensive. I've no idea whether post-Brexit import duties will make it impracticably pricey, but take a look at Amazon UK. I bought Hismer 50 Type IIR 3Ply Face Masks, Surgical Grade Medical Grade Disposable Type 2R Face Mask. Single Use Masks In Sealed Bag of 10, 5 Packs In A Box S...

Re: Stranded parcels at Vamos

If there is a KTEL bus from Vamos into Chania bus station it is quite possible that they might be able to give the parcel to that driver and he will make sure it gets put on the bus to Heraklion. Yes I’d forgotten you can do that, and I’m sure a transfer to a second bus can indeed be accommodated. ...

Re: Stranded parcels at Vamos

Many years ago, not long after we had settled in Crete, my husband had kidney problems and underwent an exploratory operation at Rethymno hospital. The consultant told me that he had found nothing untoward, but to be on the safe side he had taken tissue for a biopsy. Unbeknown to me the hospital had...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

Just for reference, I was a journalist working for British national newspapers before Jonathan Cook was born, and I am perfectly capable of assessing the accuracy of the story to which I linked. For further reference, I am deeply alarmed at the direction in which this present British government is h...

Re: Flying Crete - UK

Feeling so sorry for the responsible, law-abiding pasengers on the flight mentioned here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/31/coronavirus-selfish-covidiots-on-tui-flight-to-uk-from-greek-island-criticised I can only too easily imagine myself in their position - their lives disrupted, their...

Re: Registration Certificate and Arthritis.

Re the rheumatoid arthritis question, my late husband had excellent care over a number of years at the University Hospital's Rheumatology clinic. He would have recommended the clinic and the doctors unequivocally. I should perhaps explain the rather odd system as regards payment. A consultant and hi...

Re: Direct flights from the UK to Greece from 15th July confirmed.

Considering the USA is total insanity!

Insanity being the operative word. This is the response of some Americans to the idea of having to wear face masks:

Worth a read. It would be funny if it hadn't caused the maximum amount of hassle for thousands.

Re: British hopes of summer holidays abroad quashed!

t’s a fair bet I am the only one on here who has worked with Stanley Johnson. Hope you washed your hands! Seriously Guy I admire very much the morality behind your and Maud's thinking – the concern that you might unwittingly take the virus into Greece, and sadly I think that is quite rare. Most tou...
