Re: Help needed with slippy shower tray

I can't personally recommend a make and model, John, but in the past I have used a rubber mat with suction caps on the under side, and found it very effective. Might you find something like this locally?

Re: Welcome to Greece - Enjoy your Hotel

That's both of us showing our age then, Bob. My first car was a 1956 Morris Minor with the split windscreen and semaphore indicators. It was already pretty delapidated when I acquired it in 1969 for £35. That was almost three weeks' wages in the job I was doing then! But on your substantive point ab...

Re: Welcome to Greece - Enjoy your Hotel

I can confirm all that you say above regarding the NHS app, Warwick, although I'm not sure that a minor tweak will be sufficient to present vaccine information in an easily readable form for -- for example -- Greek immigration staff. The app is user-friendly enough, with a short menu on the home pag...

Re: Driving licences

Things might have changed with Brexit, or will do so with the introduction of biometric permits, but it is NOT true that you needed a residence card to buy a car up to now. As a 'part timer' I bought my car six years ago by simply signing a declaration at the tax office that I would not be in Crete ...

Re: German tourists

Utter madness. Those of us itching to get back to Crete and stuck in the UK, with the best vaccination rates in Europe but forbidden by law from leaving the country, can only look on in fury as Germany -- probably about to go back into lockdown because their Covid rates are so high -- sends plane lo...

Well, the longer this goes on, the more likely it will become a necessity for some of us, rather than a loophole.

Re: Taking a Trip

It's a good few years since we stayed here, but this place is a few minutes' walk from The Plaka and The Acropolis, as the name suggests: https://www.acropolismuseumhotel.com/ Not a budget hotel but not silly expensive either, although I don't know what the prices are like these days. We certainly h...

If I were you I would inquire at my local Dimos office.

Re: Biometric permits

Did anybody else spot this article in yesterday's Ekathimerini which, for me, contained a very interesting second paragraph? https://www.ekathimerini.com/259995/article/ekathimerini/news/uk-nationals-residing-legally-in-greece-will-retain-right-to-stay-after-brexit This is the first time I have read...

Re: Do they speak proper Greek?

A friend introduced her daughter to the neighbours and couldn't understand why they sniggered. It was only later that she realised that she'd said: this is my cucumber.

Re: Transporting goods Uk to Crete and Crete to Uk

Rich, it would be useful to know where in the UK you are based and able to pick up from and equally, where in Crete you could deliver to.

Re: Requirements for part-time residents in Crete

I hate to rain on your parade, Joan, but I really don't see how you can "apply for biometric permits even if we are not actually resident or tax-resident..." Have you seen the other thread on this topic, in the Brexit and Living in Greece section, under "How will the Schengen 90 days ...

Re: How will the Schengen 90 days within 180 rule affect us?

I think Tim's understanding is correct on all points. We are in the same situation as tsambi -- part-timers or in-betweeners for want of a better description -- who spend a proportion of the year at our home in Crete but remain tax resident in the UK. We have the beige residence permits, but I have ...

Re: Urgent PLF query

Voni, you definitely need a PLF form for each passenger when returning to the UK. I think it is a government requirement rather than being at the discretion of any particular airline. And immigration staff at Gatwick are out in force in the baggage reclaim area, checking that you have the QR codes o...
